Why do you want the position?
I've put in a lot of hard work in warming up to the role of Projects Manager while taking on the some of the roles of Education Manager when it comes to developing our Workshops in line with our projects and with EGB120's practical assessment structure. I have future plans to help the club develop and evolve for the better and most importantly I will maintain our EESS vibes!

Interesting fact about you?
I like to turn everything into a positive! Like getting banned from the Labs on Projects Night? Lets make it work anyway. My secret... multiply those negatives by j^2

Why do you want the position?
I’m really excited to run for Industry Manager because I’ve seen how much value it can bring to students, and I have some concrete ideas to build on it.

I’ve already started working on a new industry-focused landing page. I’d like to develop this into a full automated inbound marketing campaign to follow up with industry contacts and keep them engaged. My background in marketing will help here.

I also want to expand the kinds of industry projects we offer. We’ve had some great suggestions from lecturers about things like student competitions or a big community-focused program that can really give us a unified mission.

And finally, I want to broaden our idea of “industry” to include entrepreneurship, connecting students with founders so we can build real-world products together. I’ve already started these conversations with lecturers and the entrepreneurship department, and I’d love to take it further.

These are my goals on top of the regular duties of the industry manager like industry night and coffee catchups. I’ve really enjoyed the club and want to take ownership of this role to grow the club and help other students have as much fun and opportunities.

Interesting fact about you?
I love the ocean even though I nearly drowned in it one time. I’ve done kayaking, scuba diving, and sailing, and I’m fascinated with ocean exploration tech.

Why do you want the position?
During my time at the club I've had a blast, participating in projects and coming to Industry events. This club has definitely been my highlight of the semester, working on the power project and making an impact on something that is being used as a lot of peoples thesis's (helping me learn a lot more than i would be able to from class alone) along with the idea of it being used as a model to explain to high-school kids how the grid works.

EESS has also opened many doors for me along with many other students by providing events such as the powerlink site tour we had today and other industry events that make uni that much more enjoyable.

I feel like I have been welcomed into this great community and definitely want to get more involved and make an impact on this club.

Interesting fact about you?
I like house music

Nominating for:

Tom Wu

Current study year and degree
2nd Year Electrical Engineering

Why do you want the position?
Working with the team at EESS excites me, as it brings EE experiences closer to the QUT community - through workshops, projects, and industry networking, among others. Moreover, it provides an opportunity to build lasting relationships with peers, and only through EESS have I met some of my closest friends - my wish is for others to experience the same.

As secretary, I would organise processes that bring these to life, and make the most out of the time that our members volunteer. In my own routine, and as well as in group projects, I have effectively set small and clear goals, and managed progress through weekly check-ins. I think my initiative and organisation would make me ideal for managing the running of the club.

Why do you want the position?
Hi, I’m Erin (they/them), and I’m running for EESS Treasurer (with Education Manager and General Executive as backups). I’m passionate about increasing diversity in electrical engineering because I believe it’s an incredible field that should be welcoming and accessible to everyone. I bring relevant financial experience, having served as Treasurer of Hooked on Crochet for over a year, where I managed budgets, tracked spending, and ensured transparency. Alongside this, I’ve completed a foundational finance unit and have a strong personal interest in accounting, economics, and finance, which makes me confident in my ability to manage EESS finances responsibly.

Since the 2023 AGM, I’ve been an active executive with EESS, supporting nearly every event and working closely with the team to make initiatives a success. Other executives can vouch for my reliability, energy, and commitment to strengthening the club’s culture. I love being part of EESS and want to contribute even more by taking on the Treasurer role, where I can ensure our finances stay organised, sustainable, and supportive of the exciting opportunities we offer members. I’ll bring accountability, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for this society into the position.

Why do you want the position?
I want to make a positive difference in the student learning experience at QUT by running engaging educational workshops and supportive study sessions.

Currently, I am a peer leader in egb120 and have seen the areas and concepts that students struggle with. I would love to develop and run a debugging workshop to help teach students critical lab problem solving skills that courses skip over. I will also fight for more suitable workshop times and study session rooms to increase engagement.

Zane Bates

Bachelor of Engineering (honours) - 1st year

Why do you want the position?
The reason why I would like to become a general executive is to learn what happens behind the scenes which each executive role before nominating for one in the future, much like EESS gave me the opportunity to learn about electrical engineering before choosing my major and helping the choice of career path with in electrical engineering.

I wish to join the executive team to help give back to EESS community like others gave to me by helping others find their path during and after university, find (and potentially design) project that sparks interest and aided in studies that they might be struggling with.

Interesting fact about you?
Worked on medium consorts around northern NSW/ southeast Queensland.

Xanther Robinson

Why do you want the position?
Having the president role gives me a greater connection to QUT EESS members because, I can facilitate their needs through maintaining order and empower them to thrive. I am passionate about building positive relationships both in industry and with people who rely on engineering ethics and principles. Listed are key responsibilities and how I fulfil them:

Leadership & Strategic Direction: It is my goal to improve inclusivity and positivity for club life. For this goal, I will continue to be in contact with members of FoE who lead diversity and development.

Representation & External Relations: I will contribute to industry networking events, multi-club events and faculty meetings. I always advocate for positive relations between the Governance team and key QUT stakeholders.

Management & Operations: With the new governance team formed after this AGM, I will support them relying on my experience of being Secretary of EESS. I will collaborate closely with them to ensure smooth operations.

Governance & Compliance: In doubt I will turn to relevant policy (i.e. EESS procedure, Guild policy, Lab risk assessment). I will encourage executives to use, update and contribute to our EESS Executive Procedures. Club management tasks will be so straightforward they would be approved by a Design Verification engineer.

Why do you want the position?
I have been a committed member of the Electrical Engineering Student Society (EESS) for the past three years. In this time, I have become increasingly dedicated to contributing to the growth and success of our student-led society.

From assisting with learning workshops in a general executive capacity to recently leading the Audio Signal Visualiser Project, I have consistently sought opportunities to support and give back to EESS.

My first preference is to serve as Industry Manager, where I believe I can create strong connections between students and the engineering profession. However, I am also open to contributing as Education Manager, Projects Manager, or continuing in a General Executive role to best support the society’s needs.

Interesting fact about you?

I believe that this is achievable with my knowledge and experience at EESS. Why do you want the position?
As a general executive for the past year, I've truly loved contributing to this great club. My contributions include assisting with O-week Semester 1, guiding students in weekly workshops, recording, filming, and writing descriptions for our industry posts, and sourcing the current society supplier of our merchandise.

In particular, I have had a blast helping out the education and industry side of society. Along with general executive, I'm running for Education (1) and Industry (2) manager. This society has had a significant impact on many students, including myself and I want to continue this.

As education manager, I would like to continue running study sessions and introduce educational resources secondary to the weekly workshops that specifically aid students in practical lab skills that is structured, easy to follow and applicable for knowledge levels.

As industry manager, I would love to keep contributing to our flagship events, like industry night and coffee catchups. On top of our main industry attendees from power generation, transmission and distribution, I plan to increase the variety of industry types, at our networking events by securing companies in other sectors such as renewables, utilities, instrumentation and also startups. Because I want to ensure everyone has a chance to explore all work of interests and increase intern/placement opportunities for all year levels.

Why do you want the position?
I think being a general executive is a great way to give back to the club and help things run smoothly. As a general executive last year I’ve enjoyed recruiting new members at welcome week, showing up to weekly project nights and study sessions, and helping out the other executives with various tasks. This coming year I’d like to continue with the role as well as take on some more responsibilities to help EESS operate better than ever!

Interesting fact about you?

Nominating for:

Oscar Burrell

Current study year and degree
4th Year Computer Engineering / Computer Science

Why do you want the position?
During my past time at the club I thoroughly enjoyed learning, laughing, planning and being involved in such a tight and enthusiastic club spirit that I was hooked. From the moment I joined in my first semester I knew I would walk away a better person in character, and if not character, in skills.

Insidiously though, I saw myself hitting a wall at university and my studies. I stumbled, fell and then slowly fell out of contact with the things I enjoyed the most.

Over time though I have broken though this wall, and I am now becoming re-involved with the extra-cirriculars I held in high regards, and now today, I wish to use the skills I learned in history to be a astute team player, assisting those I can, building EESS, and adding another smile to events - and if not a utility player, then to coordinate and lead the team I once managed and once was apart of for a year.

Being apart of EESS is a gift and an opportunity, and joining this wonderful team again would be both powering myself and the people of QUT for the future.

Interesting fact about you?
I love golf, even though I am absolutely horrid at it - something about it brings me back every week

Why do you want the position?
I want to become a general executive as I've thoroughly enjoyed coming to events hosted by EESS such as project nights, industry events and some study sessions which have allowed me to meet new friends and multiple industry guests. I enjoy the sense of community that EESS has and would love to contribute to it. Additionally, I am passionate about the art of electronics and would love to teach others about it such as through project nights and potential support session for units such as EGB240.

I wish to join the position as general exec to help maintain the quality of the various events which EESS hosts and to help new students learn more about electrical engineering and electronics.

Interesting fact about you?
I like messing with classic 4x4s

Mandeep Gautam

Current study year and degree
3rd Year - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of IT

Why do you want the position?
Hi, I'm Mandeep, the guy that you see in all the EESS videos.

Being an active member of EESS since the start of Sem 2 2024 has honestly changed my university experience for the better. I have met many great people whether that's my peers or people from the industry, and had great experiences organising events such as the Industry Night and Launch Nights. I also feel very honoured to be elected as engagement manager where I was able to make good use of my content creation skills to help contribute to EESS.

And that is why I want to run for either EESS Vice President or Secretary! I want to keep growing this club honestly, not just within the social media game but within every field, whether thats socials, industry and events. As someone running for a top 4 position for the first time, I want to learn the leadership skills and responsibilities for running a club under the guidance of Xanther. I want to get involved more with helping organise events, partnering with Industry more, as well as making sure I stay on top of EESS and help it grow!

Thank you all for listening and I hope to see some of you guys next year aswell!
